16-year-old teenager tortured and murdered for criticizing marijuana quality

A 16-year-old girl in Brazil was brutally tortured and murdered after criticizing the quality of marijuana sold by local drug dealers. Gabriela Pereira reportedly angered the dealers during a livestream on Monday in Cáceres, where she complained about their product and made hand gestures associated with a rival gang.

According to Mato Grosso Civil Police, the livestream and gestures infuriated the dealers, leading two men, aged 20 and 24, to kidnap Pereira from her home. The suspects took her to a house in the Jardim Primavera neighborhood, where she was tied up and beaten for five hours before being killed. Her body was later found abandoned in the Nova Era neighborhood.

Police discovered the location where Pereira was tortured, finding her burned clothes, personal belongings, and bloodstains in the backyard and on the floor. One suspect was arrested at the scene and confessed to the murder, providing information that led to the capture of his accomplice in the Vitória Régia neighborhood. Both men admitted to torturing and killing the teenager.

Mato Grosso Civil Police Chief Marlon Nogeira, leading the investigation, suggested that Pereira may have had connections to the dealers' rivals, as she had previously posted photos flashing hand signs associated with the other gang.

"The victim did a live broadcast criticizing the marijuana used by the faction that ordered her death," Nogeira said. "They believed she was favoring the rival group."

The suspects, whose names have not been released, face charges of homicide, torture, and involvement in a criminal organization.
