2-year-old boy dies after bounce house blows away in wind gust, crashes in neighboring lot: ‘Tragic accident’
A 2-year-old boy tragically died on Saturday when a bounce house he was playing in was swept up by a gust of wind and crashed in a neighboring lot in Arizona, according to authorities.
The large inflatable went airborne around 5 p.m. with several children, including the toddler, inside, as reported by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, cited by the Arizona Republic.
The 2-year-old was rushed to a local hospital and later pronounced dead from his injuries, while a second child sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office described the incident as a “tragic accident.” “We would like to extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the grieving family,” the office said.
The young victim, known as Bodhi and identified by a family friend, is the son of a Phoenix firefighter, as confirmed by fire officials.
“To add to the unimaginable hell that they have been through the last 2 days, [parents] Karl and Cristy are expecting a child at the end of May,” wrote Phoenix Firehouse 25 online.
A fundraiser was initiated for the distraught family and has raised more than $83,000 so far.
“As a community, we want to offer our support and alleviate the financial burden that accompanies such tragedies,” expressed a family friend. “Your donations will help Karl and Cristy focus on grieving their beloved Bodhi while also preparing for the new chapter in their lives.”
