20 Remain in Intensive Care After Singapore Airlines Turbulence Incident

Twenty people from a Singapore Airlines flight that experienced severe turbulence and made an emergency landing in Bangkok remain in intensive care, a hospital official reported on Thursday.

"The number of patients in ICU remains the same," said Adinun Kittiratanapaibool, Director of Bangkok's Samitivej Srinakarin Hospital, referring to the intensive care unit. He clarified that those in the ICU require close monitoring, but there are currently no life-threatening cases.

Out of the 40 people still receiving treatment, 22 have spinal cord injuries and six have brain and skull injuries. The oldest patient is 83, and the youngest, a two-year-old child, suffered a concussion. One person has been discharged, reducing the total number under treatment from 41 to 40.

The group includes ten British, nine Australian, seven Malaysian, and four Philippine citizens. Adinun did not specify the breakdown between passengers and crew members.

The incident occurred when Singapore Airlines flight SQ321 encountered sudden, extreme turbulence over Myanmar, leading to one passenger's suspected heart attack and numerous injuries. Over 140 passengers and crew reached Singapore on Wednesday.
