25-Year-Old Soccer Star Dies Trying to Rescue Victims of Nightclub Fire in North Macedonia

A devastating nightclub fire in North Macedonia resulted in the deaths of at least 59 people, including professional soccer player Andrej Lazarov. His team confirmed that the 25-year-old succumbed to smoke inhalation while attempting to save others.
Lazarov, a member of FC Shkupi in the Macedonian First Football League, had been with the team for six months. The club described his actions as courageous and selfless, stating that his heroic efforts would always be remembered.

The fire broke out at the Pulse nightclub in Kočani around 3:00 a.m. local time. According to authorities, the blaze was caused by sparks from pyrotechnics used during a concert. More than 155 people were injured in what is considered one of the country’s worst tragedies in recent years.
Government officials expressed their condolences, with the Prime Minister describing the incident as a heartbreaking day for the nation. The government has pledged to take necessary measures to address the aftermath and determine the cause of the fire.
