A 28-year-old man in Lima, Peru, narrowly escaped death after being struck by a train while lying on the tracks. The incident occurred on Saturday when Juan Carlos Tello, reportedly intoxicated, was sleeping with his head resting on one of the rails.

CCTV footage captured the moment the train’s headlights illuminated the tracks, revealing Tello’s presence. As the locomotive approached, he woke just in time to pull his head away but was still hit by the massive machine. The impact sent him rolling sideways, with his legs caught under the carriage, spinning him violently before the train passed over him.

After the train came to a stop, Tello remained motionless before astonishingly managing to crawl out from beneath the carriage. He briefly stood before collapsing again. Concerned bystanders rushed to check on him as he sat on the curb, visibly in pain and shaking his injured hand.

Tello, who was reportedly intoxicated, fell asleep on the railway tracks.

Following the accident, he was treated at a local hospital for minor arm injuries. A photograph taken afterward showed him with a heavily bandaged arm and bloodstains on his clothing. Authorities confirmed that the cargo train was on its regular route toward the Peruvian Andes at the time of the incident.

Local officer General Javier Avalos described the incident as a miraculous escape, stating that despite being struck by the train, Tello survived with only minor injuries. He added that the man appeared to have been intoxicated and unaware of the train’s approach.

This incident follows a fatal train accident involving a tourist in Sri Lanka weeks earlier. Olga Perminova, 53, tragically lost her life after leaning out of a moving train to take a selfie. She sustained fatal head injuries in the accident, highlighting the dangers of railway-related incidents.

Authorities in Lima have urged the public to exercise caution near train tracks to prevent similar accidents.
