7 Babies Killed, Some Critical After Huge Fire At Delhi Children's Hospital
Officials said that 12 newborns were rescued from the baby care center in Delhi's Vivek Vihar area but seven died while getting treatment at the hospital.
Late Saturday, a massive fire erupted at a children's hospital in Delhi's Vivek Vihar area, leading to the tragic deaths of at least seven newborns. The Delhi Fire Services received an emergency call at 11:32 pm and promptly dispatched 16 fire tenders to the scene. Despite rescuing 12 newborns from the first floor, seven infants succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.
Five other children are currently undergoing treatment. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, and a case has been filed against the hospital owner. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal described the incident as "heart-wrenching" and assured that those responsible for the negligence would face consequences.
In a separate incident, a fire at a residential building in Krishna Nagar early Sunday resulted in three fatalities. The Delhi Fire Services chief, Atul Garg, reported that the fire was brought under control by 7:20 am after rescuing 13 people.
Earlier on Saturday, another devastating fire in Rajkot, Gujarat, claimed the lives of 27 people, including nine children, at a gaming zone. President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed their condolences over these tragic incidents.
