A FORMER WWE wrestler has been accused of shooting and killing his 85-year-old wife.
Retired WWE star, Billy Jack Haynes, renowned for his battles with legends like Ric Flair and Randy Savage throughout his illustrious 15-year tenure in the ring, finds himself at the center of a tragic incident. Authorities have apprehended the 70-year-old Haynes for allegedly shooting and killing his wife, Janette Becraft, 85, at their Oregon residence in the Lents neighborhood of Portland last Thursday.
Upon responding to reports of gunfire around 10 a.m. on Feb. 8, law enforcement encountered Haynes barricaded inside his home. Following a two-hour standoff, SWAT teams successfully took him into custody without further incident. Inside the residence, they discovered Becraft deceased.
Notably, Haynes is currently under police custody at a local hospital, receiving treatment for an unrelated medical condition. Once discharged, authorities anticipate booking him into jail, with formal charges to follow.
Described as a beloved fixture within the local community, Haynes and his late wife were known for their warmth and Haynes' penchant for sharing captivating tales from his wrestling career.
The victim’s daughter, Kim Becraft, expressed her grief on social media, commemorating her mother's spirit: “You are now flying with the angels. They are lucky to have such a beautiful soul. Love you Mom.”
Haynes gained fame during his stint in the World Wrestling Federation from 1986 to 1988, including a memorable appearance at Wrestlemania III in Detroit. After retiring in 1995, he remained active in the wrestling community, offering retrospectives on his career.
In recent years, Haynes has been embroiled in legal battles, including an unsuccessful lawsuit against Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Entertainment in 2021 over alleged negligence in preventing head injuries among wrestlers. Additionally, he made headlines in 2018 for claiming to have witnessed a violent incident involving corrupt local police in Arkansas during the 1980s, though his accounts were never substantiated.
Haynes is anticipated to face charges of murder in connection with his wife's tragic death.
