Abia Police investigate alleged murder of hotel manager by suspected soldiers
The Nigerian Army expressed deep concern over the alleged “unprofessional conduct” of some of its personnel in the tragic death of the hotel manager. The Police Command in Abia also announced that it had initiated a discreet investigation into the suspected murder of James Etubi, the Manager of Royal Damgrete Hotel, Umuahia, by individuals believed to be military personnel.
Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka, revealed this in a statement to reporters in Umuahia on Monday. Chinaka mentioned that police detectives had visited the hospital, taken photos of the deceased, and were overseeing the autopsy process.
She further detailed that the hotel director reported on Friday to the Central Police State, Umuahia, alleging that four military personnel had entered their hotel on Factory Road, Umuahia, and assaulted four staff members.
According to Chinaka, this altercation led to various injuries, with one staff member, James Etubi, collapsing and subsequently being pronounced dead at the hospital.
“The incident occurred following the death of a cadet officer, who reportedly drowned in the hotel’s swimming pool on April 9,” Chinaka added.
Meanwhile, Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, conveyed the Nigerian Army's condolences to the families of the deceased hotel manager and Nigerian Air Force Officer Cadet, Emmanuel Onyemereche. He assured the public of a thorough investigation, stating that the Army is dedicated to upholding professionalism and discipline and will take appropriate legal action against any personnel found guilty.
Nwachukwu emphasized the Army's commitment to citizen security, promoting peace and security nationwide, and pledged to keep the public informed as the investigation progresses.
