Accident claims 14 lives, 13 others injured in Kogi
At least 14 people lost their lives in a tragic head-on collision involving two Toyota buses on Sunday in Kogi State.
The accident, which occurred at Aloma community in Ofu Local Government Area of the state, also left 13 individuals with varying degrees of injuries, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
An eyewitness recounted the harrowing incident, stating that the collision occurred between a Toyota Sienna bus traveling from Port Harcourt to Abuja and a Toyota Hiace bus heading toward the southern part of the country.
"Thirteen persons, including the driver of the Hiace bus, were completely engulfed in flames after the head-on collision, leading to their tragic deaths," the eyewitness revealed. "One of the four surviving persons from the Hiace bus succumbed to injuries in the hospital, bringing the total number of fatalities to 14."
Fortunately, none of the ten occupants in the Sienna bus lost their lives, although they sustained severe injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The eyewitness praised the quick response of villagers who rushed to the accident scene and rescued the injured individuals. Their prompt intervention prevented further casualties as the Sienna bus was spared from catching fire.
