Adams screamer helps US beat Mexico but game halted due to homophobic chants

Tyler Adams made a stunning impact in his first start in over a year for club or country, scoring from about 35 yards to put the United States ahead in a 2-0 victory over Mexico in the CONCACAF Nations League final on Sunday night.

Adams opened the scoring in the 45th minute with a superb strike, receiving a pass from Weston McKennie, taking a touch, and curling a shot past diving goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Gio Reyna added a second goal in the 63rd minute, building on his strong performance in the semifinal win against Jamaica.

This win marked the United States' third consecutive CONCACAF Nations League title and extended their unbeaten streak against Mexico to seven games since September 2019, including five wins.

The match was marred by interruptions due to homophobic chants from the crowd, leading to two suspensions by referee Drew Fischer. Despite these disruptions, the game resumed, and the United States emerged victorious.

Adams' goal was particularly significant as he had been sidelined by a right hamstring injury that required surgery twice, limiting his playing time. His return to form and impact in this match highlighted his importance to the team.

Reyna, another standout performer, scored his eighth international goal, showcasing his talent despite limited playing time for his club teams.

Overall, the United States displayed resilience and skill to secure another title, demonstrating their strength in CONCACAF football.
