After U-Haul van takes plunge into grandfather’s pool, fully clothed woman claims she was just ‘out here swimming’ after 2 a.m.
Two suspects accused of attempting to steal lottery tickets from a Kum & Go convenience store in Oklahoma were arrested after a high-speed chase ended with their U-Haul van crashing into a stranger’s pool. The bizarre incident, captured on bodycam footage, aired on local news and revealed an even more absurd scene than expected.
The accused driver, Destiny Mieshia Livingstone, 39, and her co-defendant, Kasey Alan Haag, 31, face charges of first-degree robbery, fugitive from justice, and eluding a police officer, according to Creek County Jail records.
Livingstone, a Kansas resident with an outstanding bench warrant for failure to appear in a drug possession, theft, and forgery case, is also charged in Oklahoma with driving on the wrong side of a divided roadway in Sapulpa and causing malicious injury to property related to the June 9 pool crash.
The incident began around 2 a.m. when Sapulpa Police responded to the Kum & Go store. A man pointed officers in the direction of the fleeing U-Haul van. The ensuing chase lasted several miles, ending when the van drove down a dead-end street, crashed through a fence, and plunged into a pool. The homeowner, Roy Foote, was watching TV when he heard the crash. He described his pool as "polluted" by oil from the U-Haul.
Bodycam footage showed Livingstone claiming she was "swimming" in the pool at the time of the crash, despite being fully clothed. An officer expressed disbelief at her story. About an hour later, police found Haag hiding in nearby woods. Haag allegedly gave a false name, resulting in an additional charge of identity theft.
Livingstone's legal troubles extend beyond this incident. Oklahoma court records show a felony child neglect case against her from December 31, 2020. She also faces other driving-related offenses in Kansas dating back to December 2023 and felony drug possession charges.
Both suspects are scheduled to appear in court on June 25.
