Airport executive shot in firefight with federal agents at his home in Arkansas
The executive director of the Bill and Hillary Clinton Airport in Little Rock, Arkansas, Bryan Malinowski, 53, was shot Tuesday during a firefight with federal agents serving a search warrant at his home, police reported.
As the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) arrived after 6 a.m., a shootout ensued, resulting in Malinowski sustaining gunshot wounds. He was treated on the scene by paramedics before being transported to a local hospital; his current condition remains unknown.
Additionally, one ATF agent received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was also hospitalized, according to police.
Eyewitness accounts from neighbors described hearing multiple loud bangs during the incident. The state police Criminal Investigation Division is leading the investigation, with authorities yet to determine if deadly force was consistent with Arkansas law.
Shane Carter, public affairs director for the Clinton National Airport, confirmed Malinowski's role but refrained from further comment. Malinowski, who has over 30 years of experience in aviation, took over as executive director in 2019.
In response to the incident, Little Rock Airport Commission Chairman Bill Walker expressed sadness and stated that Tom Clarke, the deputy executive director, would assume the role of acting executive director while the airport continues operations as usual.
The airport was renamed in honor of former governor Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Clinton, in 2012 by the municipal commission.
