Argentinian female footballer is found beaten and strangled to death by her ex-husband - just five months after mother of two filed for a restraining order against her former partner
An Argentinian female football player, Florencia Guinazu, was tragically found strangled to death by her ex-husband, Ignacio Agustín Notto, who later took his own life inside her apartment.
Guinazu, 30, a player for Argentino de Mendoza, was discovered beaten and strangled in the room she shared with Notto. A note left on the window alerted neighbors, reading: 'Call 911. The children are alone.'
Reports indicate that Notto likely wrote the note after killing Guinazu and then committing suicide. Their two sons, aged five and seven, were found playing PlayStation in the apartment's main room.
The eldest son attempted to enter the master bedroom where the murder occurred, but the door was locked, and no response was heard. He eventually went to the courtyard, where a neighbor discovered the note and alerted the police.
Upon breaking into the master bedroom, authorities found Guinazu's body on the floor, stained with blood, and Notto's body, indicating suicide.
An autopsy revealed that Guinazu died from asphyxiation due to strangulation. The incident occurred five months after Guinazu filed a complaint against Notto and obtained a restraining order in November 2023.
The Mendoza Homicide and Institutional Violence Prosecutor's Unit stated that there were no reports of violations of the restraining order until the tragic events unfolded.
Guinazu's club, Club Atlético Argentino, mourned her death on Instagram, emphasizing that it was femicide. They highlighted her repeated complaints against Notto and condemned the violence.
Guinazu, in addition to football, had experience in rugby and a significant following on social media, with close to 25,000 followers.
