Armed Carjackers Attack Mississippi Family in Driveway, Attempt to Flee with Children Inside Car
A Mississippi family experienced a terrifying ordeal on Friday when armed carjackers attacked them in their driveway, attempting to steal their vehicle with young children still inside, as shown in a shocking doorbell camera video obtained by local news station WAPT.
The footage captures two men approaching Heather Allen and her adult son as they stand next to a black car parked at their Jackson home. One of the men points a gun at Allen, and a gunshot is heard as she and her son duck behind the car. The suspects move closer, brandishing their firearm.
The video shows one of the carjackers opening the driver's side door, pulling Allen's daughter out of the vehicle, and taking the driver's seat. According to Allen, the suspect then pointed a gun at her other son, who was inside the car. “He jumps in the driver’s seat, I’m standing on the outside looking in, and he points a gun at my oldest boy’s face,” Allen recounted to the news station.
Her son managed to escape, but her two young grandchildren remained inside the car. In a desperate attempt to save them, Allen risked her safety to retrieve the children while the suspects demanded the keys. To distract the carjackers, she threw her own keys at them. They then fled in her car, which was parked on the front lawn.
Jackson police recovered Allen's vehicle, largely undamaged, just two blocks away about 40 minutes after the incident. The car is currently being processed for evidence.
The traumatic event has left the entire family shaken. "I’m not sleeping. My oldest son, his anxiety is through the roof — he’s even scared. My daughter, she has shock, but they’re safe,” Allen told WAPT. Having lived in the area for only three months, Allen now feels the need to leave Jackson. “We can’t stay here anymore,” she said.
No arrests have been made in connection with the carjacking.
