At least 16 Injured When Roof Collapsed at Massive University Party

At least 16 people were injured when a roof collapsed during a large gathering near the University of Pittsburgh on Friday. Footage from the scene captured the moment a group of partygoers standing on an awning fell as it gave way, landing on others gathered on the porch below.
One attendee who was standing under the structure at the time of the collapse escaped uninjured and described the abrupt end to the event. "It just fell. Everyone was having fun, and then no one was having fun," he said.
Emergency responders transported 16 students to area hospitals with injuries ranging from minor to severe. Three were reported to be in serious condition, suffering from concussions and arm and leg injuries. At least a dozen others were treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Witnesses described the collapse as sudden and terrifying, with little time to react. "It all just happened in the blink of an eye. The roof just collapsed on us. It felt so scary. I really don’t have the words to comprehend how I felt in the moment," one attendee recalled.
Officials estimated that as many as 500 people had gathered in the shared courtyard of several homes. The house where the collapse occurred was deemed structurally safe following the incident, but the porch was condemned. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the collapse.
