A tragic incident occurred in southwest Pakistan as a bus carrying pilgrims veered off the road and plunged into a deep ditch, resulting in the loss of 17 lives and leaving 16 others injured, according to officials on Thursday.

The pilgrims were en route to a revered religious site in Baluchistan late Wednesday, coinciding with the first day of Eid Al-Fitr celebrations and a public holiday in Pakistan, as stated by Shahid Rind, a spokesperson for the provincial government.

The accident took place in Las Bela district, merely 25 kilometers away from the shrine the pilgrims were destined for, when the driver lost control of the bus.

Fifteen individuals in critical condition were promptly transferred to a hospital in neighboring Sindh province. The bus was carrying a total of 33 people, including the driver.

Expressing his condolences, Baluchistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti lamented the tragic crash and conveyed his sympathy to the affected families.
