Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has recently married her long-time partner Sophie Allouache in Adelaide.

In a brief statement on Facebook, Senator Wong expressed her joy at having "so many of our family and friends share this special day with us."

The wedding reportedly took place at the Bird in Hand winery in Woodside, Adelaide Hills, on Saturday, attended by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his fiancee Jodie Haydon, along with several Labor colleagues.

Their daughters, 12-year-old Alexandra and eight-year-old Hannah, played the roles of flower girls, adding a touch of familial charm to the occasion.

A multitude of congratulatory messages flooded in for the senator upon sharing a photo online, including warm wishes from Australian Home Affairs Minister Clare O'Neil and Skills and Training Minister Brendan O'Connor.

Senator Wong met Ms. Allouache in 2007 and chose not to publicly announce their engagement, maintaining a private aspect to their relationship.

Although South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas did not attend, he extended his congratulations to the newlyweds, wishing them a day filled with joy.

Opposition Senate leader Simon Birmingham also offered his heartfelt wishes on Senator Wong's Facebook post, hoping for a lifetime of love and happiness for the couple, along with resilience during challenging times.

Senator Wong's journey as the first openly LGBTIQ woman in the Senate and later in the cabinet, as Minister for Climate Change, has been a significant part of her political and personal identity.

Her emotional reaction to Australia's historic vote in favor of same-sex marriage in 2017 resonated globally, symbolizing a moment of profound significance for many.
