Australian Teacher Charged with Sexual Intercourse with a Student, 17, Under Her Care

A married Australian teacher was recently charged with sexual intercourse with a child under her care after she allegedly had sex with the student in the back of her car.

Tayla Brailey, 30, was arrested on Tuesday at Lurnea High and charged with sexual intercourse with a child under her care, sexually touching a child under her care, and aggravated sexual assault of a child under her care.

According to court documents, Brailey who is newly married broke down and became hysterical when detectives arrived at the southwest Sydney school where she works.

She allegedly said: “I am going to jail, aren’t I? I’m going to lose my family, my husband, my job.”

In court documents, Police allege that Brailey sent videos of herself masturbating to the 17-year-old student and that she bought the morning-after pill after an alleged sexual encounter.

The alleged affair started when the student added Brailey on Snapchat and the pair began exchanging messages in early July.

“The accused sent several photographs and videos of herself both naked and while she was masturbating herself,” the police stated.

“The victim also returned several photographs and videos of himself.”

Brailey then invited the teen to her North Wollongong home, where she allegedly kissed him before taking him to an upstairs room and masturbating him.

About a week later, Brailey was on duty at school when she contacted the teen and told him she was free for an hour. They allegedly met off-site and had sex in Brailey’s car.

She then purchased the morning-after pill, police claim.

Contact between the pair then ceased until Brailey allegedly contacted the alleged victim to ask him if he had told people about their alleged sexual encounter.

He told her he had not.

The boy later told police that he felt like he had to send Brailey explicit images to keep her “happy.”

Police allege that Brailey admitted speaking to three students, the complainant and two other students, via social media. Brailey is not facing any charges about other children, but the court heard investigations are ongoing.

Brailey was married in 2023 and was supported in court by her parents and husband.

The Department of Education spokesman confirmed Brailey had been suspended without pay.

“The safety and welfare of students are our highest priorities,” the spokesman said.

“The department has strong policies and procedures in place to ensure their care and protection and to act when employees are alleged to have engaged in misconduct.” Brailey was granted bail at Liverpool Crown Court.

She must report to the police three times a week, surrender her passport, and abstain from social media.
