“Bad Breath Rapist” Captured After 16 Years on the Run
Convicted Sexual Predator Tuen Lee Apprehended in Northern California
Tuen Lee, infamously known as the “Bad Breath Rapist,” has been apprehended in Northern California more than 16 years after fleeing Massachusetts during his trial. The Massachusetts State Police confirmed Lee's arrest on Tuesday.
Lee was convicted in 2007 for breaking into a co-worker’s house and raping her on February 2, 2005. He was identified through DNA evidence and his notably bad breath, earning him the notorious nickname. However, by the time the jury delivered the guilty verdict for rape and kidnapping, Lee had already fled the state.
Authorities pursued Lee for years, even featuring him on "America’s Most Wanted." The case saw a breakthrough earlier this year when investigators linked Lee to a multimillion-dollar home owned by a shop owner in Diablo, California.
Police surveillance observed Lee and a woman leaving the home on Tuesday. During a traffic stop, Lee initially provided a false name but later admitted his true identity, confirmed by fingerprints. According to the state police, Lee’s female companion, who had been with him for 15 years in California, was unaware of his true identity.
Lee is now being transported to the Danville Police Department for booking, with his transfer to Massachusetts pending.
