Bandits attack luxury bus, rob passengers, set bus ablaze in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has officially confirmed that armed bandits intercepted an Abakaliki-bound luxury bus on Friday night, robbed all passengers, and then proceeded to set the bus on fire.

According to Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, who confirmed the incident via social media, it occurred at Oke Ado junction in Ijebu Mushin along the Ijebu Ode-Ore-Benin expressway. She stated, “The vehicle was coming from Maza Maza before it encountered the hoodlums. No reference to the gun was made. They carried cutlasses.”

Reports indicate that the robbers, in a brazen act, had earlier robbed all 59 passengers aboard the bus of their possessions, locked the vehicle from outside, and then set it ablaze.

In a distressing video shared on social media by influencer Chude Nnamdi, survivors of the attack recounted their horrifying experience. One passenger lamented, “Ifesinachi Motors, we were traveling in the night to come back to the East for Easter celebration, and criminals attacked us in Ijebu Ode along Ore/Benin expressway.”

The victims described how the armed bandits, wielding weapons and displaying aggression, stripped them of their belongings and subjected them to a terrifying ordeal. Another survivor shared, “They robbed us of everything we had, some they stripped half-naked. They locked us inside the 59-seater luxury bus and set it ablaze.”

Despite the traumatic experience, the survivors expressed gratitude that no lives were lost in the fire. However, they lamented the loss of all their belongings and the injuries sustained during the robbery and subsequent fire.

They have been stranded since the early hours following the incident.
