Bear dragged Massachusetts car crash victim’s body from vehicle and into woods: cops
Police in Massachusetts reported a tragic incident involving a car crash and a bear, with Daniel Ducharme, 31, likely being killed in the accident. Ducharme lost control of his vehicle on Route 91 in Hatfield on Sunday morning, crashing into the guardrail multiple times and eventually veering off the road down an embankment.
According to Massachusetts State Police, Ducharme was either fully or partially ejected from his 2016 Honda Civic during the crash. Another driver alerted authorities to the wreck's location off the roadway around 11 a.m. on Sunday.
"When first responders arrived at the scene, they found the deceased male occupant of the vehicle outside the car, and a bear was spotted in the nearby woods," State Police stated, indicating that the bear may have dragged Ducharme's body to that location.
"Evidence suggests the bear had made contact with the victim's body," they added. The bear left the area while troopers were present.
While it's assumed that Ducharme was killed during the initial crash, a comprehensive investigation into the incident and his death is ongoing. Ducharme was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
As of Tuesday, State Police hadn't responded to requests for further comment from The Post.
