Belgian Backpacker's Shocking Encounter: Python Emerges from Shower Drain in Australia's Kakadu National Park

Kevin Houdart, a Belgian bus driver on a working holiday visa in Australia, got the surprise of a lifetime during a shower at Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory. As he turned on the water, a python slithered out of the drain, capturing Kevin's immediate attention.

"I was startled when the snake peeked its head out just seconds after I started showering. I quickly jumped out, feeling a rush of adrenaline. I tried the next shower, but the snake appeared there too!" recounted Kevin.

In footage captured by Kevin, the python can be seen navigating in and out of the drain as water cascades down. This unusual encounter made for a memorable shower experience for the 29-year-old traveller from Brussels, Belgium.

Kevin admitted to being unsure about the specific species but took precautions given Australia's reputation for venomous snakes. Consulting a local snake Facebook page, he learned that the snake was a harmless children's python, easing his concerns.

While Kevin attempted to free the snake from the drain, he eventually contacted park authorities for assistance. "I love wildlife too much to ignore it. I reached out to the national park, and they promptly sent a ranger to handle the situation. I hope they were able to rescue the snake," said Kevin.

This unique incident left viewers on edge, with one remarking, "I would've dropped dead right then and there," while others shared insights into snake encounters in similar situations.

For Kevin, this unexpected encounter serves as a reminder to always be cautious and aware of Australia's diverse wildlife, even in seemingly mundane settings like a shower.
