Bodybuilder Arrested for Allegedly Causing Wife's Death in Brutal Attack
Marcela Luise, 31, died after suffering severe injuries in an alleged vicious assault by her husband, bodybuilder Igor Porto Brandao. The tragic incident occurred while their daughter was at school, leaving Marcela with traumatic brain injuries, broken ribs, a broken shoulder blade, and extensive bruising.
Marcela spent 10 days unconscious in the intensive care unit at Santa Monica Hospital, Brazil, before succumbing to her injuries on Monday night. Igor, who drove her to the hospital, was quickly arrested on suspicion of femicide.
Igor claimed Marcela sustained her injuries from a fall while cleaning at home. However, medical experts and a post-mortem examination determined her injuries were inconsistent with a fall, leading to his arrest.
The hospital alerted the police force specialized in women's assistance (DEAM), who initiated an investigation. An investigator told TV Anhanguera, "She suffered head trauma on both sides of her head and at the base of her skull, fractured her collarbone, eight ribs, and had several bruises on her body."
Igor was remanded in prison pending the ongoing criminal investigation. Police chief Bruna Coelho described him as having an "explosive and aggressive temperament" and noted his history of domestic violence, including incidents with Marcela and an ex-partner.
Marcela's aunt, Fernanda Paula Miranda, confirmed her death to local press. In an interview while Marcela was still in intensive care, Fernanda described Igor's controlling and abusive behavior, stating, "He often told her she wasn't a good mum, that she didn't know how to do anything, insulted her and humiliated her."
Igor, who had over 12,000 followers on Instagram as a nutritionist and fitness coach, has since had his account closed.
