Bodycam footage shows the moment elderly Ohio man is confronted by cops after shooting dead Uber driver: 'I'm sure glad you guys are here, I'm being scammed'
Bodycam footage captures the moment when Ohio police confronted an elderly man, William Brock, after he fatally shot an Uber driver, Lo-Letha Toland-Hall, 61. Brock, 81, allegedly believed Toland-Hall was a scammer.
Brock claimed he had received threatening calls throughout the day before Toland-Hall's arrival and has pleaded not guilty to her murder.
The police revealed that Toland-Hall was also a victim of a scam, as she was dispatched to Brock's South Charleston residence through the Uber app under the guise of 'picking up a package.'
In the video, Brock calmly explains to an officer how he had been on the phone for hours with someone demanding bond money for a supposed nephew in jail. The officer consoles him before Brock is placed in a police car after a pat-down.
Another angle from the footage shows police rushing towards Brock's home after the shooting, with several patrol cars parked outside with their sirens flashing.
Inside the home, an officer attempts to call the scammer back, capturing the exchange on camera. The scammer evades revealing his identity and threatens the officer.
Brock faced charges of murder, felonious assault, and kidnapping during a court appearance at a Clark County court and pleaded not guilty. He told police that the scammer had demanded money and threatened his life and family.
A chilling 911 call from Brock after the shooting reveals his distress over the threatening calls he had received.
Toland-Hall's dashcam recorded her harrowing final moments, unaware of the danger as she arrived to collect the package. Brock pulled out a gun, demanded information from her, took her phone, and shot her multiple times during a scuffle.
Despite attempts to escape, Toland-Hall succumbed to her injuries, and Uber expressed condolences to her family, vowing to support the investigation.
