Boyfriend choked professional dancer, 26, to death in sex game gone wrong then hanged himself
An inquest has revealed that a professional dancer, Georgia May Brooke, was strangled to death by her boyfriend, Luke Cannon, who subsequently hanged himself.
Georgia, 26, and Luke, 31, had engaged in rough sex under the influence of cocaine, alcohol, and the illegal drug GHB. Their sexual activities often involved role play and homemade pornography.
Tragedy struck on February 3, 2022, when Luke choked Georgia unconscious, maintaining pressure on her neck until she went into cardiac arrest. Paramedics found her lifeless body in Luke's Bradford home after his 999 call. Despite efforts to revive her, Georgia was pronounced dead at Bradford Royal Infirmary.
Luke, expressing remorse to medical staff, fled the hospital and was later found dead by hanging in a nearby wooded area.
Detective Sergeant Phil Hardwick stated that although there were concerns about the circumstances leading to Georgia's death, all sexual encounters between the couple were consensual. Text messages on Georgia's phone indicated an interest in choking during sex.
Pathologist Dr. Christopher Johnson determined that Georgia died from manual strangulation exacerbated by high levels of GHB, cocaine, and alcohol in her system. The sexual practice of choking for hypoxic euphoria, while dangerous, was consensual in this instance.
Georgia's mother, Samantha Beaumont, described her daughter as a talented dancer with a bright future. Friends mentioned the couple's drug use and their sexually adventurous relationship, including rough treatment and choking.
Coroner Martin Fleming ruled Georgia's death as 'unlawful killing' but noted that it was not a premeditated act. He emphasized the dangers of such sexual practices, particularly when combined with drugs, urging caution and awareness of the potential fatal consequences.
