A Brazilian mother and daughter have shared their transformative journey of gender transition, revealing how they have now embraced life as father and son.

Raphael Batista, 38, and Gustavo Batista, 10, from São Paulo, were both born biologically female but now identify as male. Gustavo began his transition at just four years old, which gave Raphael the "strength and courage" to embrace his own gender identity.

Raphael, who stopped identifying as female last year, shared his story on Instagram, where the duo has nearly 25,000 followers. In a translated post, he wrote, “If I have dysphoria in my body? The answer is yes.”

Speaking to G1, Raphael clarified that Gustavo did not influence his transition but rather provided the courage to confront it. “He gave me strength and courage to face [the transition],” he said.

The pair actively advocate for respect and have spoken out against people using their "dead names"—the names they had before transitioning. They continue to document their journey, receiving overwhelming support from their online community.

Gustavo, who also works as an actor, receives gender-affirming care at specialized medical institutions in São Paulo. Meanwhile, debates around transgender healthcare remain heated globally, with countries like the UK recently banning puberty blockers for minors over safety concerns.

As their story gains international attention, Raphael and Gustavo continue to challenge societal norms, standing as an inspiration for many in the LGBTQ+ community.
