The Independent understands that Mr. Lynch is among those unaccounted for after the 56-meter (184-foot) sailboat capsized in the early hours of Monday near the Sicilian capital, Palermo. The yacht, carrying 22 foreign tourists, encountered a whirlwind and rough seas around 5 am near the port of Porticello.
Among the missing are four Britons and a child. A man has been confirmed dead, while 15 others, including another child, have been rescued. The yacht had a crew of 10 and 12 passengers, representing British, American, and Canadian nationalities, according to the Italian coast guard.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with a helicopter and rescue boats from various Italian agencies searching the wreckage. A body was seen being pulled from the water on Monday morning, and eight survivors are currently hospitalized.
