British tourist, 55, dies in horror body surfing accident at Indian beach after 'rough wave slammed him into a dune causing fatal head and neck injuries'

A British tourist tragically lost his life in an accident while body surfing on a beach in India. Roy John Taylor, 55, described as an adept body surfer by authorities, met his demise at Varkala Papanasam Beach in Kerala on Friday morning. A powerful wave struck him, slamming him onto a dune and causing fatal head and neck injuries.

Mr. Taylor had arrived in Varkala the day before the incident with his wife, staying at a beachside hotel near Papanasam. The accident occurred around 11:30 am local time amidst a bustling beach scene. Eyewitnesses recall seeing him and another woman enjoying the morning in the water, engaging in swimming and body surfing.

The lifeguards present immediately provided first aid and transported him to the hospital, but unfortunately, the injuries proved fatal. Authorities conducted an inquest and have sent his body for postmortem examination. Initial investigations suggest that rough waves during his body surfing led to the tragic accident.

The police have informed relevant authorities, including the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), the Indian High Commission, and the British Embassy. A Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed that they are offering support to Mr. Taylor's family during this difficult time.

This incident comes shortly after another British tourist, Vijay Tulshidas Daswani, 72, drowned in Goa while swimming with his wife, swept away by a strong wave. These events underscore the importance of beach safety and awareness, especially during periods of rough sea conditions.
