Bus crash fire kills six after horror collision with lorry in India
Six people lost their lives, and 20 others sustained injuries in a tragic accident involving a bus from Chinnaganjam in Bapatla district heading to Hyderabad that collided with a tipper lorry near Chilkaluripet. The collision occurred at high speed, causing both vehicles to catch fire.
Most of the passengers were residents of Chinaganjam, Gonasapudi, and Neelayapalem, returning to Hyderabad after participating in the elections in AP. At approximately 1:30 am, the bus collided head-on with a gravel-loaded tipper, leading to an immediate ignition of the tipper and subsequent spreading of flames to the bus.
Among the deceased were three members of a family from Neelayapalem identified as Kasi Brahmeshwar Rao (62), his wife Lakshmi (58), and their granddaughter Srisai (9), along with the bus driver Anji, tipper driver Harisingh from Madhya Pradesh, and another individual.
The accident occurred while passengers were asleep, with the death toll potentially higher if not for the quick action of a young man named Sai, who was near the driver. Sai, thrown out of the vehicle during the collision, managed to rise swiftly and open the bus doors, aiding many passengers in exiting.
Upon notification, law enforcement promptly responded to the scene, coordinating with ambulances from Chilakaluripet, Yaddanapudi, Chirala, and Yedlapadu to provide immediate medical assistance. Trapped passengers were rescued by police and firefighters, and the injured were transported to Chilakaluripet area hospital and Guntur government hospital for treatment.
Firefighters successfully extinguished the flames after approximately 30 minutes. Police attributed the accident to the tipper's excessive speed and its difficulty in maneuvering on the muddy road due to ongoing bypass road construction.
