The match ended in a goalless draw after 120 minutes, leading to a tense penalty shootout where only one of the first six kicks was converted. Bafana Bafana's goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, emerged as the hero, saving four crucial spot-kicks and securing a 2-1 victory for his team.

In a dramatic climax at Stade Charles Konan Banny de Yamoussoukro, Ronwen Williams' stellar performance propelled South Africa to the semi-finals, where they will face Nigeria.

The game witnessed limited scoring opportunities over 120 minutes, with Cape Verde having the best chance. Williams made a crucial save against Garry Rodrigues in the 56th minute and a fantastic reflex save against Gilson Benchimol in stoppage time.

The match went into extra time, where Vozinha, Cape Verde's goalkeeper, showcased heroics by thwarting Mihlali Mayambela and Evidence Makgopa. The deadlock persisted, leading to a decisive penalty shootout.

Teboho Mokoena and Mothobi Mvala successfully converted their penalties for South Africa. Although Bryan Teixeira found the target for Cape Verde, Ronwen Williams denied Bebe, Willy Semedo, Laros Duarte, and Patrick Andrade, securing South Africa's place in the semi-finals.

Cape Verde had an opportunity to make history with their first appearance in the Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals, but four unsuccessful penalties dashed their hopes.

Ronwen Williams' outstanding saves ensured that South Africa maintained their composure and progressed to the last four for the first time since 2000.
