Chicago Homeowner Chases Burglar with Frying Pan in Dramatic Neighborhood Pursuit in video
In a startling incident in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood, homeowner Jason Williams thwarted a burglary with an unconventional weapon—a frying pan. The dramatic chase unfolded just after 3 p.m. on Thursday when Williams, alerted by a security app, returned home from work to find an intruder inside.
Recalling the encounter, Williams told ABC 7 Chicago, “I came in the house, looked for an available weapon... there was a frying pan laying there, so I grabbed it. At the same time, the burglar came downstairs. It was fight or flight, and I chose to fight.”
Security footage captured the intruder fleeing the house and jumping off the front porch as Williams pursued, wielding the frying pan. The two men ran around the front yard, out of camera view, as three distinct bangs were heard. Williams was heard shouting, “Get out of here, I’m gonna kill you,” as he chased the burglar.
The pursuit ended when two Chicago police officers arrived just as the suspect fled into the streets. The intruder eventually surrendered and was detained. Williams later shared his experience on social media, posting a photo of the suspect sitting in the street and a picture of the dented frying pan, writing, “Almost killed him. Hit him with a frying pan! Got him!!!”
Williams added humorously that the intruder was lucky the police arrived when they did, as he was delivering a significant beating and would need a new frying pan. He also shared a photo of the suspect being placed into an ambulance, noting the burglar would have a headache the next day.
Reflecting on the incident, Williams admitted, “This could have had a different ending, and I’m glad it had a good one. My wife’s not happy about the decision I made… probably wouldn’t do it again, but it is what it is.”
That evening, Williams cooked a seafood dinner—using a different frying pan. He humorously posted on social media, “My night to cook. Making swordfish basted in butter and garlic with asparagus. Pan fried of course…”
Chicago Police data shows the city has experienced over 3,400 burglaries in the past year, a slight increase from the previous year. The police department confirmed a suspect was taken into custody, but it was unclear if charges had been filed.
