Coca-Cola Heir Ordered to Pay $900 Million in Sexual Assault Case
A Los Angeles jury has ordered Greek billionaire Alki David, heir to a Coca-Cola bottling fortune, to pay $900 million in damages to a former employee who accused him of sexual assault. The unanimous ruling on Monday followed allegations that David harassed and raped the woman, identified as Jane Doe, over a three-year period.
“It’s so despicable, the facts of this case. He raped my client while on trial in another case,” said attorney Gary Dordick, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The alleged abuse began in February 2016 while Jane Doe worked as a model for several of David’s companies, including Hologram USA, which creates holograms of deceased celebrities. Doe's lawyers described the work environment as "alarmingly hostile," noting that one room was referred to as "The Rape Room" and a pornographic image labeled "HER-ASS" adorned the human resources department door.
Initially, David allegedly tried to kiss Doe during a work trip to his private island in Greece. Although she rejected him and he apologized, the harassment continued when she rejoined his team in 2018 as a brand ambassador at his cannabis company, Swiss-X.
David reportedly invited Doe to his hotel room, where he gave her a sample of what he claimed was a CBD product. She became inebriated and disoriented, at which point David allegedly forced her to touch him sexually while masturbating in front of her. The abuse escalated in 2019 when David allegedly raped her in a small room during a business meeting, with his Doberman pinscher present.
At the time of the alleged rape, David was already on trial for another sexual misconduct case involving employee Mahim Khan, for which he was ordered to pay $58 million. This recent ruling marks the fourth significant verdict against him in recent years, with multiple employees accusing him of sexual misconduct and retaliatory firings.
“This monumental verdict marks a significant triumph for justice and sets a precedent in the fight against workplace sexual assault,” Dordick said in a statement.
