Conjoined twin Abby Hensel’s husband’s paternity results revealed at dramatic court hearing
The husband of celebrity conjoined twin Abby Hensel has been cleared of paternity in a case accusing him of fathering another woman’s child.
Former army medic Joshua Bowling, 34, recently married Hensel, who shares a body with twin sister Brittany, in 2021. However, nearly two years later, he faced a lawsuit alleging he might have fathered a three-year-old with his ex-wife.
In a moment reminiscent of a 90s daytime talk show, the Minnesota District Court in Washington County revealed the results of a genetic test to determine the child's father. Attorney Gregory Seamon, representing Gavin Vatnsdal, admitted his client was confirmed as the father from the test results entered into the court file on March 7, 2024.
“It’s not Mr. Bowling’s child. It’s my client’s child,” Seamon informed the court.
“I think all parties agree that Mr. Vatnsdal should be the adjudicated father, and Mr. Bowling should be discharged and removed from the birth certificate,” Judge Siv Mjanger declared during Friday's hearing before closing the courtroom to the public.
“ I can grant that motion.”
Annica, Joshua, Vatnsdal, and the Hensel twins did not respond to The Post’s requests for comment.
Annica and Joshua, married in 2010, have an 8-year-old daughter, Isabella, for whom they share joint custody. The couple separated in April 2019, and Annica subsequently had another daughter, born in late 2020, whose paternity was contested.
The lawsuit was filed in October 2023, nearly two years after Joshua and Abby, the left-side conjoined twin, secretly wed. Following the public revelation of the marriage, Abby and Brittany responded on TikTok, acknowledging the attention.
Documents indicated that Abby did not list her sister as a witness for the marriage. Instead, Abby’s older sister, Morgan Hensel, and Cosmo Naut were noted as witnesses.
Born and raised in Minnesota, the Hensel sisters first gained attention on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in 1996 to discuss their lives as dicephalus conjoined twins. They later shared their experiences in an eight-part TLC reality series, “Abby & Brittany,” in 2012.
The twins were born with the rare condition of two heads on a single body, with one genital system, two to four arms, two hearts, and two legs. They share a bloodstream and all organs below the waist, with Abby controlling the right side and Brittany controlling the left. Their parents opted against separation surgery due to the low survival odds.
Today, both Abby and Brittany are fifth-grade teachers in Minnesota.
