Daughter Charged with Criminal Negligence after Elderly Mother Killed by Dogs

A woman in Southern Colorado has been taken into police custody after her dogs allegedly attacked and killed her elderly mother.
Deputies responded to a home on Jefferson Boulevard in Pueblo County following reports of an unconscious woman. Upon arrival, they found 76-year-old LaVonne Hoff deceased. Several dogs were running loose inside the residence, while an additional two dozen dogs and seven birds were confined in cages.
An autopsy confirmed that LaVonne Hoff had died as a result of a dog attack. Investigators also determined that she had dementia and required constant care.
Authorities revealed that Jessica Hoff, 47, had left her mother alone with the animals while she went to Pueblo to run errands. During her absence, the loose dogs reportedly attacked and fatally injured LaVonne Hoff.
A subsequent search of Jessica Hoff’s second property in Colorado City led to the discovery of additional animals living in unsanitary conditions. In total, she was found to have 54 dogs and seven birds, many of which were reported to be in poor health. Colorado Animal Law Enforcement agents seized the animals.
Jessica Hoff was arrested and charged with criminal negligence resulting in the death of an at-risk adult, along with 54 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals. She is currently being held at the Pueblo County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
