Death Toll Rises To 7 In Bauchi Zakat Collection Stampede
Seven individuals have tragically lost their lives due to a stampede during an almsgiving program in Bauchi over the weekend.
Police authorities have confirmed this, stating that six victims were pronounced dead at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, while another victim passed away at home.
Ahmed Wakilin, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, provided this update on Monday, revealing the identities of the deceased as follows: Aisha Usman, 13 years old from Gwang Gwang Gwang; Sahura Abubakar, 55 years old from Anguwan; Aisha Ibrahim Abubakar, 43 years old from Kobi Street; and Khadija Isah, 8 years old from Karofi – all from Bauchi.
The remaining victims are 20-year-old Maryam Suleiman from Kandahar; 16-year-old Maryam Shuibu from Gwang Gwan Gwan, and 53-year-old Hassana Saidu from Dutsen Tanshi, all of whom are females from Bauchi.
The tragic incident unfolded on Sunday at Shafa Holdings Company Plc along Jos Road in Bauchi metropolis.
A significant number of residents had gathered to receive N10,000 each provided as alms for the poor by an unnamed philanthropist.
The overwhelming crowd at the location led to chaos and a stampede, resulting in the deaths of these seven individuals.
