Divers ‘looking in water’ in search for TV doctor on Greek island of Symi

Authorities have resumed their search for TV doctor and columnist Michael Mosley, who went missing while holidaying on the Greek island of Symi. With a yellow weather warning in place and temperatures expected to reach 36 degrees Celsius on Friday, concerns for Mosley's welfare are growing.

Mosley's wife, Dr. Clare Bailey, raised the alarm when he failed to return to their accommodation after a coastal walk on Wednesday afternoon. A police source informed the Daily Mail that there is "just no trace" of the 67-year-old after he left Saint Nikolas Beach to hike along a coastal path around 1:30 PM.

"Any and every attempt to track him down has not produced any result," the source said, noting that the search efforts have been expanded.

Symi Mayor Eleftherios Papakalodoukas stated that firefighters believe it is "impossible" Mosley is still in the area. "It is a very small, controlled area, full of people. So, if something happened to him there, we would have found him by now," he told the BBC.

A local Facebook group reported that divers are now involved in the search. Symi's coastguard has deployed around five patrol boats, along with private and commercial vessels. Mosley and his wife had traveled to the island with another couple for a week's holiday. On Wednesday, the group took a boat to Saint Nikolas Beach, but Mosley decided to return on foot.

Police are exploring various possibilities, including an accident, a fall, or a snake bite. The area where Mosley went missing is rocky and challenging, with Mayor Papakalodoukas describing Wednesday's heat as "unbearable."

Local police stated they were informed about the "disappearance of the 67-year-old British national" two days ago. The Greek fire service, equipped with a vehicle and a drone team, arrived from Rhodes to assist. The search is focusing on the Pedi area after a woman reported seeing Mosley there on Wednesday.

Adriana Shum, who shared a Facebook appeal, noted that Mosley had reportedly left his phone at his accommodation, complicating the search. The UK Foreign Office is supporting Mosley's family and is in contact with local authorities.

Mosley is known for his columns in the Daily Mail and his TV appearances on shows like "The One Show" and "Trust Me, I'm A Doctor." His colleague Saleyha Ahsan expressed her concern on social media, hoping for Mosley's safe return.

On Thursday's edition of "The One Show," presenter Alex Jones mentioned the situation, saying, "Our thoughts are very much with his wife Clare and the rest of his family at this worrying time. We hope for more positive news."
