Driver ‘killed two passengers who were twerking in her convertible Mini Cooper’

A woman is facing charges for causing the deaths of two friends in a tragic accident, as detailed in court proceedings.

Adele Ojokie Aidonojie, 23, had been socializing with Rida Boujetif, Mary Macharia, and Ben Sidibe in London on the night of July 16, 2022, when they all got into her convertible Mini Cooper. Unfortunately, the night took a devastating turn as Aidonojie was driving at a speed of around 62mph on a 30mph road in Battersea, causing the car to crash with its roof down.

This led to Ms. Boujetif and Ms. Macharia being thrown from the vehicle, resulting in fatal head injuries. Mr. Sidibe, who was seated in the front and believed to be wearing his seatbelt, suffered a broken arm and was hospitalized.

During the trial at the Old Bailey, forensic speed analysis revealed the excessive speed at which Aidonojie was driving at the time of the crash. Despite denying responsibility for the deaths or Mr. Sidibe’s injuries, Aidonojie allegedly instructed a witness not to call emergency services, expressing fear of arrest. She purportedly mentioned a 'hit and run' and inquired about surveillance cameras on the street.

Further statements presented in court indicated that Aidonojie had passed a breathalyser test two hours after the crash but had consumed alcohol along with her friends earlier in the evening. Mr. Sidibe recalled Aidonojie urging their friends to wear seat belts, but they disregarded her advice, focusing instead on drinking.

In a heartfelt tribute on a Gofundme page created to cover funeral expenses, Ms. Macharia’s brother Daniel described his sister as inspirational, highlighting her ambition and positive influence on those around her.

The trial is ongoing, with the court yet to reach a verdict on the matter.
