Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, regains freedom
The Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tony Aziegbemi, has been released from captivity after spending 11 days in the hands of his abductors.
Aziegbemi was abducted by armed men on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 11 pm at the entrance to his house following a meeting with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.
The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N500 million for his release.
Senator Odion Ugbesia confirmed Aziegbemi's freedom, stating, “Yes, I just spoke to him, it is true. To God be the glory.”
Meanwhile, a statement issued by Clem Aziegbemi, on behalf of the Aziegbemi family, expressed gratitude to the public for their love and solidarity during the ordeal.
“As a member of the Aziegbemi family, we express our heartfelt gratitude for the tremendous show of love and solidarity extended to us throughout the unfortunate abduction of our beloved son, brother, cousin, and leader, Dr Tony Aziegbemi, and for his safe release.
“We are profoundly thankful for all your invaluable contributions, including prayers and unwavering support," the statement read.
