Elon Musk has responded following the defeat of conservative candidate Brad Schimel in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, a loss that solidified a 4-3 liberal majority on the court for the next three years.

“I never could have imagined that I would be taking on the richest man in the world for justice in Wisconsin... and we won,” Democratic candidate Susan Crawford said after her victory was confirmed.

Crawford’s win ensures that the court will remain under liberal control, shaping decisions on key issues such as abortion rights, voting laws, and redistricting.

Musk, like President Donald Trump, shifted focus to another Wisconsin ballot measure—a constitutional amendment approving voter ID laws. The vote took place alongside the Supreme Court election.

“This was the most important thing,” Musk posted on X in response to a post about the voter ID measure, hours after Crawford was unofficially declared the winner in what became the most expensive judicial election in American history and the first major electoral test of Trump’s presidency. Before the vote, Musk had repeatedly emphasized the importance of voter ID laws in posts on March 29, 31, and election day.

Schimel, who was frequently linked to Musk and dubbed “Elon Schimel” by critics, conceded defeat.

During his concession speech, a woman in the audience shouted, “Cheater, cheater!” Schimel responded, “You’ve got to accept the results.”

The defeat marked a significant loss for Musk, who contributed over $21 million to support Schimel’s campaign against Crawford. Two days before the election, Musk personally traveled to Wisconsin, handing out $1 million checks to voters after delivering a speech while wearing a cheesehead hat.

Following the loss, Musk took to X, writing, “The long con of the left is corruption of the judiciary.”

Trump also highlighted the voter ID win, stating on Truth Social: “VOTER I.D. JUST APPROVED IN WISCONSIN ELECTION. Democrats fought hard against this, presumably so they can CHEAT.” He continued, “This is a BIG WIN FOR REPUBLICANS, MAYBE THE BIGGEST WIN OF THE NIGHT. IT SHOULD ALLOW US TO WIN WISCONSIN, LIKE I JUST DID IN THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, FOR MANY YEARS TO COME!”

Reports indicate that voter turnout surpassed 52%, breaking the previous record of nearly 40% set in 2023. Campaign spending for the race exceeded $100 million.

It remains unclear whether Musk and Trump will formally acknowledge Crawford’s victory, as Trump has instead focused on Republican wins in other races and ongoing discussions about tariffs in his latest Truth Social posts.
