Erisco Tomato Review: Attorney Confirms Miscarriage of Woman Detained for Reviewing Erisco Tomato Mix
In a distressing development, the attorney for Chioma Okoli, who was detained after reviewing Erisco Tomato Mix, confirmed that she suffered a miscarriage while in custody. Chioma Okoli, a 39-year-old entrepreneur from Lagos, lost her pregnancy amidst her legal ordeal, as revealed by her lawyer, Mr. Inibehe Effiong, in a recent social media post.
Effiong disclosed, "I can confirm that Chioma Okoli suffered a miscarriage and lost her pregnancy. I made this disclosure to the Honourable Court during yesterday’s proceedings, and it was reported by pressmen who were present."
He explained that the information was initially kept private, only to be disclosed in court. However, due to growing public interest, he felt compelled to confirm it. "The evidence of the miscarriage is before the Court and is not for the media," Effiong added.
Chioma Okoli was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja on charges of cyberstalking, to which she pleaded not guilty. She has been remanded in Suleja Custodial Centre pending a ruling on her bail application set for Friday, May 31, 2024.
Effiong urged the public to understand the limitations on what he can publicly disclose about her case and condition at this time, concluding, "History will vindicate the just."
Okoli's legal troubles began after she posted a critical review of Nagiko Tomato Mix, produced by Erisco Foods Limited, on Facebook. Her post drew varied reactions, including a defensive reply from a commenter urging her to use another product if dissatisfied. Okoli's response criticized the product's quality, leading to her arrest on September 24 and subsequent prosecution for allegedly breaching Nigeria’s cybercrime laws.
