Exonerated man fulfills dream of walking daughter down the aisle
Kiera Barrow's father, Lamar Johnson, was wrongly convicted and spent nearly three decades in prison before being exonerated.
He walked out of court a free man on February 14, 2023, just in time for his daughter's wedding in April. Johnson's wrongful conviction stemmed from a flawed eyewitness testimony, which was later recanted.
In a twist of fate, the same eyewitness, Greg Elking, recanted his testimony, leading to Johnson's exoneration.
Elking confessed to feeling pressured by detectives and lied under oath during Johnson's trial in 1995.
Despite this, Johnson remained in prison until his innocence hearing in December 2022, where Elking testified truthfully, and another witness confirmed Johnson's innocence.
Now, Barrow gets to enjoy a new chapter in her relationship with her father, whom she always believed to be innocent.
Johnson expressed his relief and gratitude for finally being heard and vindicated after years of wrongful imprisonment.
