Father of Apalachee High School Shooting Suspect Charged with Murder for Buying Son AR-Style Rifle
Colin Gray, 54, the father of Apalachee High School shooting suspect Colt Gray, has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly gifting his 14-year-old son an AR-style rifle as a Christmas present. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation confirmed Gray faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children.
The charges follow the deadly shooting at the Winder, Georgia, high school on Wednesday, in which Colt Gray allegedly opened fire, killing two 14-year-old students and two teachers. The teen has been charged with four counts of murder and will be tried as an adult. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
The FBI revealed that it had received anonymous tips in May 2023 about online threats to carry out a school shooting. Local authorities questioned Colt Gray at the time, but he denied involvement. Colin Gray had informed investigators that while unloaded hunting rifles were accessible in the family home, his son did not have unsupervised access to them.
