Federal High Court Fixes March 19 To Rule On Nnamdi Kanu’s Bail Application
The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled March 19, 2024, as the date for ruling on the bail application filed by Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Kanu, on Monday, submitted a fresh application for bail concerning the treasonable felony charges brought against him by the Nigerian Government.
Arguing on behalf of Kanu, his counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, emphasized the deteriorating health of the IPOB leader as grounds for granting bail.
However, the prosecuting team, led by Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), who replaced David Kaswe from the Federal Ministry of Justice, urged the court to reject the bail application, asserting that the Department of State Services (DSS) possesses adequate medical facilities to attend to Kanu's health needs.
Consequently, the judge deferred the ruling on the bail application to March 19, 2024.
One of Kanu's legal representatives informed journalists outside the courtroom, stating, "We anticipated a ruling today, but his lordship deemed it necessary to postpone it until March 19, 2024." He further clarified that by that time, the judge would have made a decision regarding the bail request.
