Fiancé of Madison Bergmann, teacher busted for ‘making out’ with 5th-grader, says the wedding is off: ‘She cheated with a little kid’
A female teacher who was arrested for allegedly making out with an 11-year-old Wisconsin student has been dumped by her fiancé.
Madison Bergmann, 24, is facing one count of first-degree child sexual assault after a parent of a fifth grader reported her to River Crest Elementary School administrators and police.
The teacher was supposed to marry her partner Sam Hickman in July, but the plans have been canceled because of what Hickman described as 'messed-up behavior' by his fiancée.
'It's been indefinitely postponed,' according to a friend of the couple.
'And it probably won't happen. Sam is really upset and heartbroken. He's embarrassed and angry. He didn't deserve this. Everyone is upset,' he added. The St. Paul couple's wedding website on The Knot has also been removed.
'It was more like, 'Well obviously it's not going to happen this summer. Pretty much all that there is to say.
'He says it's messed up that she cheated with a little kid,' the friend said.
'He's really hurt. Not talking too much about it, just like "this is messed up". He’s still in shock.
'Not only did she cheat on him, but she cheated with a little kid.'
According to her Facebook, Bergmann got engaged to Hickman in December, and their wedding was set for July 27.
The alleged sexual assault was uncovered after the boy's parents reportedly found text messages between Bergmann and their son.
On Wednesday, the child's father handed over printed text messages where she allegedly told the child that she liked when the victim touched her and that she enjoyed 'making out' with him. The child's mother initially overheard the student and Bergmann talking on the phone before she informed the child's father.
During her interview with police, she told authorities that the victim's mother allegedly gave her the student's phone number after the family invited her to Afton Alps, a skiing resort, over winter break.
Upon searching Bergmann's bag, officers found handwritten notes between the pair, charging documents said. It is unclear what was written in the notes.
When asked about the text exchange between her and the student, Bergmann invoked her right to an attorney, documents said.
After her arrest, she was suspended from her teaching role. During her suspension, Bergmann is not allowed to have contact with Hudson School District students, parents, or staff.
She is also not permitted on district property and cannot attend any school activities.
'Learning about a school staff member and alleged inappropriate conduct that breaches trust is deeply troubling for all of us,' the school said in a statement. 'We understand the gravity of this situation and are committed to providing the necessary support for any child who may be impacted.
'We kindly request the school community to respect the privacy of Hudson students and their families and refrain from spreading rumors or speculation.'
Bergmann was released on a $25,000 signature bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 30.
