A Florida firefighter, St. John’s County Fire Rescue Lt. Shawn Yarbrough, 46, reportedly killed his wife, financial advisor Andrea Nichole Nahrup Yarbrough, 34, in an apparent murder-suicide at their St. Augustine home earlier this month.

The tragedy unfolded on June 13 when police responded to a welfare check requested by Andrea’s mother, who was unable to reach her daughter. Authorities found both Shawn and Andrea dead in the bathroom, each from gunshot wounds, as confirmed by an autopsy report.

Just weeks before their deaths, Andrea took to Facebook on May 31 to express frustration about Shawn's grueling work schedule, which included a staggering 3,203 calls for service in one month. “This is why all of our significant others are exhausted and never functioning 100% at home,” she lamented in her post.

The couple, who had recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary, shared a blended family of four children, with Andrea caring for Shawn’s three sons from a previous relationship as if they were her own. Andrea also had an 11-year-old daughter from a prior relationship.

“Andrea loved those boys and wanted the best for them,” said Debbie Churchill, Andrea’s mother. “It’s all very confusing and hard right now. I can’t explain it.”

Expressing shock over the incident, Andrea’s younger sister Olivia Marvin described her as a resilient fighter who always strived for the best for everyone she loved.

On May 31, Andrea made a Facebook post showing the monthly activity logs for her husband's department, which included 3,203 calls for service.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue Chief Sean McGee addressed the tragic event, acknowledging its profound impact on the families involved and emphasizing the department's deep sadness.

In the wake of Andrea’s death, her family has started a GoFundMe to support her 11-year-old daughter, Lily, who is now without her mother’s care and support. The fundraiser has received overwhelming community support, raising over $20,000 for Lily’s future.

As Lily moves in with her grandparents along with her dog Marsh, the family remains focused on providing her with the love and stability she needs during this difficult time.
