Florida gymnastics coach charged with having sex with 2 underage students
A South Florida gymnastics coach is behind bars after allegedly engaging in sexual activity with two underage girls.
Oscar Olea, 38, was apprehended on Wednesday and faces two charges of engaging in sexual conduct with minors over 12 but under 18 while in a familial or custodial role, as reported by the Miami Herald.
According to prosecutors, Olea sexually assaulted the two students around 2011 during his tenure as their coach. Arrest warrants indicate that the victims were 13 and 16 at the time. Investigators stated that Olea initially fostered a sibling-like bond with both victims, which later evolved into sexual activity.
Each charge carries a bond of $25,000. While he was slated to appear for arraignment in Miami-Dade court on Monday, the hearing was postponed to Tuesday morning.
