Four Florida teens, aged between 14 and 16, died in a police chase ending with a PIT maneuver, causing their car to flip over and crash into a cement pole at 111mph

Four Florida teenagers died after being involved in a police chase where officers used a maneuver to stop the car, causing it to spin out of control.

The teens, aged 14 to 16 and from Newberry High School in Bradford County, northeast of Gainesville, were in a stolen SUV. Two died at the scene in Waldo, while the others succumbed to injuries at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

The incident occurred after their stolen SUV was spotted by police, leading to a high-speed chase by authorities who found it hard to keep up with the vehicle

Jabril Cheevers and Lawrence McClendon Jr. were Newberry High students. McClendon played football for the school.

The chase began after the SUV was reported stolen in Gainesville and detected by a license plate reader. Deputies tried to pull over the car, which sped up, reaching 111mph.

A trooper used a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, causing the SUV to roll over and hit a pole.

'The Trooper made intentional contact with the Honda, causing it to decelerate,' said a statement from the FHP. It took over an hour to rescue everyone.

Two of the teens in the car died at the scene in the Waldo area, while the other two passed away from their injuries days later

Bradford County deputies stopped the chase at the county line as their cars couldn't keep up. Only the Highway Patrol could match the speed.

Two teens wore ankle monitors, and three had warrants. Some wore ski masks.

Another of the teens who lost his life was remembered in a tribute on Facebook

Principal James Sheppard expressed condolences, while football coach Ed Johnson praised McClendon's talent and competitiveness.
