'From Westeros to Windsor'
Emilia Clarke and her mother, Jennifer, were honored in a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Feb. 21, where Prince William appointed both women as Members of the Order of the British Empire.
The MBE awards were bestowed upon the mother-daughter pair in recognition of their dedicated efforts with SameYou, a charity they co-established to aid brain injury survivors. Emilia, known for her role in Game of Thrones, has been vocal about her own journey with brain injuries after experiencing two brain aneurysms in 2011 and 2013.
A brief video shared on the official Instagram account of the Prince and Princess of Wales captured the moment as the actress and her mother received their awards from Prince William.
"From Westeros to Windsor, it was a genuine pleasure to honor @emilia_clarke and her mother Jennifer today for their charitable endeavors with @sameyouorg, supporting brain injury recovery care," read the post, acknowledging Clarke's iconic role in Game of Thrones. "Congratulations to all recipients of today’s honors!"
In the video, Clarke's mother expressed the motivation behind launching their charity, emphasizing the lack of understanding surrounding the consequences of brain injuries. She underscored their commitment to SameYou, aiming to assist individuals who have been grappling with such challenges for an extended period and advocating for much-needed changes in support systems.
Clarke, 37, who famously portrayed Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s acclaimed fantasy series, was informed of her impending award late last year. In a January 2 Instagram post, she expressed her astonishment and gratitude for the "incredible honor."
"But amidst all the glitz and excitement, this award truly belongs to all those who have endured and continue to endure brain injuries," she emphasized, reiterating her dedication to elevating awareness and support for this cause on a global scale.
