Gambian Woman Arrested for Setting Boyfriend’s Family Home on Fire
A 19-year-old woman, Ramatoulie Baldeh, has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to her boyfriend’s family home in Kerr Sering, Gambia.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, following a dispute between the couple.
According to Gambian media reports, Ramatoulie ignited a plastic bag and threw it onto a bed before opening a gas cylinder, triggering a fire that quickly spread throughout the house, reducing all belongings to ashes.
Although no injuries were reported, the blaze caused extensive damage.
At the time of the incident, ten tenants were residing in the compound. The fire also spread to their apartments, leaving them displaced and without possessions.
One affected tenant shared their plight with journalists: "We are now homeless, with all our belongings destroyed. We urgently need help."
Ramatoulie Baldeh is currently in police custody at the Senegambia Police Station as CID officers continue their investigation.
