"General Hospital" Actor Johnny Wactor Fatally Shot During Catalytic Converter Theft in Los Angeles

'General Hospital’ actor Johnny Wactor was killed in downtown Los Angeles.

Early Saturday morning, "General Hospital" actor Johnny Wactor, 37, was tragically shot and killed in Los Angeles while confronting three masked thieves attempting to steal a catalytic converter from his car.


According to TMZ, Wactor and a colleague encountered the suspects around 3:30 a.m. downtown. Despite not putting up a fight, Wactor was shot by one of the thieves, who then fled the scene in a vehicle. Scarlett Wactor, Johnny's mother, shared that her son initially thought his car was being towed and tried to speak to one of the robbers before being shot.


Law enforcement confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that Wactor confronted the suspects and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. As of Sunday afternoon, no arrests have been made.


Wactor played Brando Corbin in 164 episodes of the long-running soap opera.

Wactor was best known for his role as Brando Corbin on "General Hospital," appearing in 164 episodes between 2020 and 2022. He also had roles in "Siberia," "Army Wives," and "Criminal Minds."


The "General Hospital" family expressed their heartbreak over Wactor's death. The show released a statement on X, mourning his loss and offering condolences to his loved ones. Fellow actors, including Jon Lindstrom and Nancy Lee Grahn, shared their grief and remembered Wactor as a kind and talented individual.


Scarlett Wactor described her son as a loving young man. Johnny Wactor is survived by his mother and two younger brothers. His Instagram page, which showcased his passions for rock climbing and acting, is now filled with messages of condolence.


The theft of catalytic converters, which contain valuable metals and can be sold for over $1,000 on the black market, has seen a significant rise across the country in recent years.
